Storms Are Coming To Herndon: Weekly Forecast

After the past couple weeks of dryness, the weather could be changing this week.

HERNDON, VA -- A cold front is on its way to the region this week, and that could mean an end to our "flash drought" with some fierce summer storms in the Herndon area.

Despite having a wet May and June, there hadn't been measurable rainfall in the D.C. area since June 27 despite the fact that this is peak thunderstorm season. But expect that to change this week.

The week will begin with lots of hot mugginess on Monday, but by Tuesday, showers and storms are likely to roll in, and then weather should take a turn for the pleasant later in the week -- with storms getting back in the forecast by the weekend.

That means the MLB All-Star Game in D.C. could be disrupted, as heavy rainfall is expected with localized flooding possible, according to a report from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. However, there is the possibility that the bulk of this rain will be done before the game starts.

Before that, we endure a hot and muggy Monday, with temperatures soaring into the mid 90s and a heat index at around 100 degrees. Some afternoon and evening showers are possible, but the rainfall chance is only about 30 percent.

Once Tuesday's storms move through, Wednesday through Friday will actually be pretty nice, with sunny skies and temperatures topping out in the 80s. The humidity will take a dive too, so it will feel a lot nicer than that. The evenings will dip into the 60s.

Unfortunately, that humidity will move back up this weekend and showers and storms return to the forecast. It's still a ways out, so an exact prediction is tough, but it's looking like we'll get dumped on at some point either Saturday or Sunday, or possibly both.

So if you're looking to get out and about this week, it's look like Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday are the best days to do it.
