HERNDON, VA — Herndon Middle School was on lockdown Thursday afternoon following reports that one of the students involved in an off-campus alteration displayed a gun, according to a 4:02 p.m. post on the Herndon Police Department's official Twitter account.

The fight between the two middle school-aged children took place near the 900 block of Alabama Drive, which is a short walk from campus. The school reopened around 4 p.m.

No other details have been released.
