Teen Charged With Running Red Light in Fatal Accident

Local woman died last month following collision on Herndon Parkway.

The Herndon Police Department announced Wednesday that a teenage motorist has been issued a ticket for a May 8 collision that took the life of a 58-year-old Herndon resident.

At about 7 a.m. on May 8, Ana Beltran-Zavala was struck by a vehicle while crossing the Herndon Parkway near Summerfield Drive. She succumbed to her injuries on May 9 after being airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old female, has been issued a summons for failure to obey a red light, the town police said. They did not release her name because she is being treated as a juvenile in this case.

The case will be heard in the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The date for a hearing has not been set, the town police said.

The juvenile driver remained at the scene following the May 8 accident. The Herndon Police Accident Reconstruction Unit has completed its investigation of the collision, the town police said.
