The Town Council has scheduled public hearings on the $49.9 million budget proposed for fiscal 2016 on Tuesday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 28.
Anselene says the plan represents a 2.1 percent increase over the town’s budget for the current fiscal year. Herndon’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

“A slight increase in residential real estate assessments is offset by a decrease in commercial assessments,” Anselene said in a press release. “Accordingly, my proposed FY 2016 Budget calls for maintaining existing tax rates and continued focus on redevelopment of the downtown, planning for transient-oriented development near Metrorail’s Herndon station and maintenance of the quality of our public facilities and infrastructure.”
The 2016 budget calls for the town to set up automated systems in trash collection and water meter reading.
It also proposes longer-term planning for projects such as bus, auto, pedestrian and bicyclist access to the future Metrorail station; improvements to the intersection at Elden and Center streets; and park improvements to include synthetic turf at Bready Park.
Hard copies of the Proposed FY 2016 Budget are available for review at the Herndon Municipal Center and Herndon Fortnightly Library.
All citizens and businesses in the town will receive “A Citizen’s Guide to the Proposed FY 2016 Budget” via U.S. Mail.
The public hearings will begin at 7 p.m. in the Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St. Citizens may also submit comments about the budget online at www.herndon-va.gov or send an email to budget@herndon-va.gov.
