What child – big or small – doesn’t love the chance to climb aboard a fire truck, concrete truck or tractor trailer? This spring, local youngsters will have that opportunity at the Virginia Touch-A-Truck event held by Joshua’s Hands.
Rain or Shine. All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Please, no pets. At 10 am the first 300 kids will receive a free die cast car/truck with admission, at 1 pm the first 50 kids will receive a free Virginia Touch-A-Truck t-shirt. Kid friendly food will be available for purchase. This year’s event will feature the famous Idaho Potato Truck!
The Big Idaho Potato truck is a 28 foot long, six-ton replica of an Idaho potato on a tractor trailer bed. It tours cross-country annually on behalf of the Idaho Potato Commission, promoting the heart-healthy Idaho potato. We’re thrilled to be a part of this year’s tour.
This is a fantastic charity event for families. Hundreds of kids scramble all over fire trucks, a cement truck, military vehicles, police cars, an ambulance, enormous 100 foot hook and ladder...and kids get to sit in drivers seats and toot horns and sirens. It does not get any better that that!
Approximately 2,000 people attended last year’s event. Joshua’s Hands had 30 participating vehicles from local businesses and first responders. Popular returning vehicles from last year include the pink limo from Sweet and Sassy Salon, Loudoun and Sterling emergency/animal services vehicles, Road Runner Wrecking Service tow trucks, the Virginia Regional Transit trolley, and many more. The first 300 children in attendance received a free die cast toy vehicle – Joshua's hands is continuing this tradition thanks to a generous donation from Target.
About Joshua’s Hands
As always, all proceeds from this year’s event benefit Joshua’s Hands – a non-profit organization established in 1999 in memory of Joshua Guthrie, a local teen who passed away in an automobile accident. Joshua’s Hands is dedicated to education and service. Last year the organization awarded three college scholarships (bringing the total to $30K plus since they started this program), provided funds for approximately 10 camp scholarships, staffed a project that provides food to the elderly and needy, encouraged teen safe driving, and brought volunteers together to make quilts for America’s Wounded/Valiant Warriors. Joshua’s hands retains no paid staff – all proceeds from this event go directly to the work of Joshua’s Hands.
