Video Of Deadly Herndon Shootout Released

Police witnessed footage from a helicopter as well as 9-1-1 tapes from the deadly Jan. 16 standoff on Covered Wagon Lane.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County Police have released footage shot from a helicopter that captured the final moments of a standoff in Herndon between an allegedly drug-crazed man and police officers.

Fairfax County Police Chief Col. Edwin Roessler decided to release portions of helicopter video and audio 9-1-1 recordings from the Jan. 16 barricade and fatal shooting of 32-year-old Mohammad Doudzai on Covered Wagon Lane, according to a statement from the Fairfax County Police Department. WARNING: The video, which is embedded below, is graphic and appears to show the suspect being fatally shot.

In the video, the man appears to be waving a knife threateningly at several officers that are approaching the front entrance to the home before he is shot. Earlier in the video, the townhouse is clearly on fire as the man inside slashes at the window screen and wanders around in an extremely agitated fashion.

The 9-1-1 tapes are embedded below, and are also graphic. The person who was trapped in third-floor bathroom during the ordeal can be heard whispering to the dispatcher, apparently afraid he would be overheard by Doudzai. "Fire, oh my god, burning," he can be heard saying. "I'm scared he'll be able to hear me."

The Commonwealth's Attorney issued a final report describing the police's response in detail and absolving officers of any wrongdoing.
