What's Open, Closed For Christmas Weekend 2022 In Herndon

HERNDON, VA — Christmas is on a Sunday this year, meaning that most Town of Herndon and Fairfax County offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 to celebrate the holiday.

Town of Herndon and Fairfax County government will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 23 and remain closed through Monday, Dec. 26. Other services have schedule changes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or surrounding days.

Below are the openings and closures to know for the Christmas holiday around Herndon:

Fairfax County government offices: Closing at noon on Dec. 23, and closed through Dec. 26.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Winter break is Dec. 19 to Jan. 2.

Courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court and General District Court will be closed Dec. 23 to 26. Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed Dec. 26.

Herndon Community Center: The community center will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Dec. 23-24; and closed Dec. 25-26.

Bready Park Tennis Center: The tennis center will be open from 7 a.m.-12 noon, Dec. 23-24; and closed Dec. 25-26. From Dec. 27-30, all courts will be open for spot-time reservations after 1:30 p.m. Patrons should call ahead 703-435-6800 x2114.

Herndon Centennial Golf Course: The golf course will be open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., on Dec. 23; and 8 a.m.-2 p.m., on Dec. 24, weather permitting. The center will be closed on Dec. 25.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Dec. 23 to 26.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Sunday service on Dec. 25 and 26. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.

Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library locations will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 23 and closed Dec. 24 to 26.

Metro: Metrorail will be open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 25 and 7 a.m. to midnight on a Sunday holiday schedule on Dec. 26. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 26.

Post offices: Closed on Dec. 26.

Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are open regular hours on Dec. 23, open regular hours to noon on Dec. 24, closed on Dec. 25 and open regular hours on Dec. 26.

Herndon trash and recycling: Trash will be collected Dec. 23 as usual. No recycling will be collected on Monday, Dec. 26. Monday recycling will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Trash and recycling: Fairfax County collection customers will not have collection services on Dec. 25. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and thew I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and are closed Dec. 25.
