What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2022 In Herndon

Here are the Thanksgiving and Black Friday schedule changes to expect around Herndon, plus events around the holiday.

HERNDON, VA — Various closings and schedule changes will be in place for the Thanksgiving holiday in the Herndon area.

County government, schools and other services will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24 as well as Black Friday, Nov. 25. Services like transit will be open with modified schedules.

Reston Town Center's 30th annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting will take place at 11 a.m., rain or shine, on Market Street. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance in a horse-drawn carriage.

After the parade, attendees are invited to enjoy Mini-Train rides until 4:30 p.m. The Clauses will return at 6 p.m., for the Fountain Square Tree Lighting. Carriage rides will be open to the public from 6-10 p.m., with all the proceeds going to local charities.

Parking is free in all of Reston Town Center's garages on Nov. 26.

Below are the openings and closures to know for the Thanksgiving holiday around Herndon:

Town of Herndon Offices: Closed on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 24 and 25.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Nov. 23 to 25.

Community centers: Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services community centers will be closed Nov. 24 and 25 and reopen Monday, Nov. 28.

Courts: Fairfax County courts close at noon on Nov. 23 and are closed Nov. 24 and 25.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are typically closed on Thanksgiving.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Sunday service on Nov. 24 and holiday weekday service on Nov. 25. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.

Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Nov. 24 and 25.

Metro: Metrorail will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on Nov. 24 from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Nov. 25, Metrorail will run on a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 24.

Post offices: Closed on Nov. 24.

Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are closed on Nov. 24 and open on Nov. 25.

Herndon Community Center: Modified hours on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 7 a.m.-4 p.m. The center will be closed on Nov. 24 and 25.

Tennis Center: Closed Nov. 24 and Nov. 25.

Herndon Centennial Golf Center: Open 8 a.m.-2p.m., on Nov. 24, weather permitting. Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., on Nov. 25, weather permitting.

Trash and recycling: Town of Herndon traffic and recycling normally collected on Thursday will be collected on Friday. Friday trash will be collected on Friday, as usual. Fairfax County collection customers will have collection services on Nov. 24. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.

Yard Waste Collection: There will be no yard waste collected during Thanksgiving week, but this does not affect leaf collection.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are closed on Nov. 24.

Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Nov. 24 and 25. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
