Will the Warm Weather Continue in Herndon?
The unseasonably warm temperatures refuse to yield to the cold, raising the question of whether winter is done in the D.C. area.
HERNDON, VA — It's been an unseasonably warm winter in Herndon to say the least, and for those who enjoy the snow, the season has been a bust so far. But is it really time to declare winter over?
After the massive blizzard and freezing temperatures we got last year, this winter has certainly been an unexpected one. It's on track to be the third-warmest on record, with this month on pace to be the second-warmest February, according to a Washington Post report.
But is it really over? After all, we've had March snowstorms before, and there's still a little less than a couple weeks in February.

But those two weeks are probably going to stay pretty warm, according to the Weather.com 15-day forecast. Temperatures will sore to near 70 degrees this weekend, and will hover in the 50s and 60s throughout the rest of the month and into early March, never going lower than the low 50s for a high and staying above freezing even during the lowest of the lows.
But what about March or even April? Unfortunately, if you're a fan of snow, the news isn't good. The Post examined the 10 warmest winters in the D.C. area on record and what followed in March and April, finding that on only three occasions did we get more than an inch of snow: in 1890, 1932 and 1950.
