Mother Shoots Her Sons, Then Herself In Herndon: Report

Police believe the deaths of a woman and two children was a domestic incident, and there is no threat to public safety.

UPDATE 5:05 p.m.: The Washington Post identified the shooter as Noera Ayaz, and the juveniles as her two sons. The Post also reported that it was her husband who arrived home to discover the bodies. Ayaz reportedly was an attorney who advocated for women and immigrants, and was active in the Muslim community.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: Police believe a 42-year-old woman shot two juveniles before shooting herself. Police have not identified the woman or indicated how old the children were, or what their relation was to each other. Detectives are still investigating and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting autopsies. Officers responded at 6:20 p.m. after the homeowner called 911 upon finding the two juveniles, and police later discovered the woman.

HERNDON, VA -- Two juveniles and a woman were found dead in a Herndon home Wednesday evening, and police are investigating what happened.

The bodies were found in a home in the 1000 block of Safa Street, Fairfax County Police tweeted at 8:37 p.m.

"Preliminarily, this appears to be domestic-related," police wrote. "We do not believe there is a threat to public safety."

There were no further details available as of Thursday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
