Write by the Rails: Our First Marketing Panel
Nancy S. Kyme lays the groundwork for her new Blog on Patch!

A generous attendance of more than thirty people came to Manassas Trinity Episcopal Church on the first Saturday in September to hear our panel on, "How to Market Your Book."
Leigh Giza and Cindy Brookshire did so well coordinating the event, those of us on the panel simply slipped into our seats at the head table and jumped into our favorite subjects; writing and marketing. Thanks to Dan Verner, Biscuit City blogger, our witty and humorous moderator, we each kept to our 10 minute time limit. Carol Covin, author of Who Gets to Name Grandma, shared many tips on how to use social marketing and websites, plus how to pull them all together and gain the most exposure through links and feeds. Tee Morris shared his use of movie trailers to promote his series of steam punk novels, Phoenix Rising and The Janus Affair. He even aired a private showing and explained their evolution. Ross Murphy, author of You Will Never Dance Alone and Dancing with the Devil is also the acquisitions director for Aberdeen Bay Publishing. He shared his unique perspective of a being a publisher and writer. Mostly, he confirmed our entire purpose; all authors must do their own marketing.
I discussed many of the lessons I have learned about marketing since publishing Memory Lake: The Forever Friendships of Summer, which I intend to recap and expound upon through this Patch blog. So, stay tuned!
