Jan E. Moffatt joined the Loft Gallery in 1991 and in 2009 she opened her studio in the new adjoining Loft Art Center. When she joined the gallery, Moffatt had not painted in more than 15 years as she focused on her design career and Old Town, Alexandria, graphics firm. At the Loft, she found her "art home."
Moffatt is an award-winning painter who enjoys creating landscapes from her imagination, inspired by places she's visited. She says, "I let the paintings lead me. They are daydreams, imaginings, meditations of places remembered or dreamt. I strive to take viewers on a journey into the landscape, across the field-away from their day-to-day problems.

"Art has always been at the core of my life. As a child, I played along the coast of Connecticut, in swamps and on beaches, painted the water and weeds and sky and fields. I was totally mesmerized, transported by the power and beauty of nature. I still feel the thrill of immersing myself in the landscape and playing with paint! I fall more in love with painting every day.
"As an intuitive painter, I paint from the inside out. Communicating the feeling of a certain moment in time is more important than replicating an exact scene."
In addition to the Loft Gallery (www.theloftgallery.org), Moffat shows her work at the Art League Gallery at The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. Her website is www.janmoffatt.com.
