Learn how to manage your diabetes: food, exercise, medications by setting goals and having a buddy. Classes taught by physician, RN and RD.

Living Well with Diabetes  is a lifestyle program for people with diabetes.  It focuses on the consequences of high blood sugar and how to improve lifestyle behaviors – exercise, the importance of correctly taking medications, and having eyes, feet and kidneys monitored.  Food shopping, preparation and eating out are an important focus of the class.  Participants learn how to handle the questions “what am I going to cook for dinner” or “I am in the fast-food drive through, what do I order?”  There are 4 sessions and a follow up meeting 3 months later.  A light meal is included in the class from 6-6:30 followed by the class until 8 PM.  The fifty dollar fee for persons with diabetes includes A1c test at the first and follow-up classes.  Thursdays beginning June 6 at the McCoart building.  Call Virginia Cooperative Extension Nutrition Program 703-792-4764 for more information.  Pre registration required.
