Festive Holiday Cranberry Sauce

Brighten your table with this classic holiday dish.

Turkey? Check. Stuffing? Check. Green bean casserole? Check. Cranberry sauce?  Oooops! Are you telling me you may have forgotten that annual bright red gelatinous staple?  Well, you can stop worrying because we have you covered!

This recipe is so easy, you could even let the kids help you with it and KNOW that everyone at the table will oooh and ahhh over its tangy and sweet colorful goodness. Best of all, you probably already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen...

Festive Cranberry Sauce

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) package fresh cranberries
  • 1 medium apple
  • 1 medium pear
  • 1 medium orange
  • 1 cup dried fruit (any flavor will work - I used raisins)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Peel, core and dice apple and pear - set aside.

Puree orange - set aside.

Bring your water and sugar to a light boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.

Add cranberries, apple, pear, orange, dried fruit, pecans and spices. Stir occasionally as it simmers for 30 minutes or until cranberries begin to pop open. Remove from heat, pour into a serving bowl and chill it in the refrigerator.
