Wanted: Anti-Hunger Warriors for Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month! NVFS seeks volunteers for virtual canned food drives

All month long volunteers across America will take action to fight hunger in their community. This is your opportunity to join the movement to make a significant impact in our area for local families. In honor of Hunger Action Month, Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) challenges its supporters to collect a minimum of 51 cans of food to benefit the Hunger Resource Center at SERVE. Once 51 or more cans have been collected, supporters are being asked to snap a selfie with their cans and share it via Facebook with the hashtag #51cans.

Recently the Washington Post reported that food banks across the country are seeing a rise in demand despite the growth in our economy. The HRC at SERVE provides food to more than 800 families a month. In addition to providing food, the HRC has begun nutrition awareness, cooking demos to decrease waste, and outreach to connect clients to SNAP benefits.

The Hunger Resource Center is located in Manassas, adjacent to the SERVE Family Shelter. For more information, please contact Alyssa Lee, Annual Giving Manger, at 571.748.2871 or alee@nvfs.org.
