Counterfeit Travelers Checks Arrest in Leesburg

Georgia man accused of passing fake checks at two outlet mall shops, according to Leesburg Police Department.

On December 30, 2014, the Leesburg Police Department received a call regarding possible fictitious traveler’s checks being passed at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlet Mall. As a result of the investigation Kyneth Neil Atwater, 32, of Atlanta, Georgia was arrested after it was determined that he passed counterfeit travelers checks at the J. Crew and Calvin Klein Stores. During the transactions, Atwater utilized a fictitious name. Atwater was part of a group of subjects that were using these checks and other stores that were targeted included Claire’s and Adidas.

Kyneth Neil Atwater was charged with two counts of violation of Virginia Code §18.2-270, Forgery of a Bank Note, and was ordered held in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on $10,000 secured bond.

The Leesburg Police Department is continuing to attempt to locate/identify the other suspects that were with Atwater during these transactions.
