Driver Crosses Into Oncoming Traffic, Dies Near Leesburg: Police
A driver who entered the opposite lane and crashed into another vehicle in Loudoun County on Saturday morning lost his life at the scene.
LEESBURG, VA — A motorist driving eastbound on Harmony Church Road (Route 704) near Leesburg died Saturday morning after crossing into the opposite lane of travel and then crashing into an oncoming Ford F-150 pickup truck. Phillip S. Heffelfinger, 31, who was driving a Nissan Juke, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with injuries and is expected to survive, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Jan. 11.
The crash occurred around 5:10 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Harmony Church Road near Peale Lane. The crash took place just over a mile from where Harmony Church Road — a road with a lot of curves that serves as shortcut between southern Leesburg and Hamilton — meets Route 15.
The crash remains under investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. Anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to law enforcement is asked to contact Investigator S. Allen at 703-777-1021.
