ArtShop: PAINT! Kids' art workshops

Pro artist Tim Chambers will teach kids (parents welcome, too!) the essentials of painting technique at 2011′s first ArtShop on Saturday, January 8th in Purcellville, VA.  ArtShops is a monthly all-day event with each month focusing on a different discipline in art. This month's focus in on the techniques and methods of painting; February, March, and April will focus on Values, Color, and Texture.

Students will work in acrylics and learn about mixing, how to use and care for your brushes, paint layout, materials, blending, and more. The ArtShop will be held in Purcellville in the Quad Room of Blue Ridge Bible Church, and will run from 9am to 3pm. Cost is only $55 and includes materials. Lunch is available for only $4. Tim offers a few scholarships at each ArtShop so that no one need miss out. "Kids and parents alike have raved about how much fun they've had while learning 'serious' lessons from my workshops. I learned that art, like other genres, requires discipline, skill, and knowledge in addition to heart. Too often today's art curriculums focus on feelings and expression, and really are a means for building self-esteem through encouragement rather than through achievement. My workshops focus on teaching kids actual skills, and when they see the fruit of their labor, believe me, their smiles reflect good feelings are happenin' within!" says teacher Tim Chambers.

Another thing that is pretty cool about the ArtShops is that Tim offers them tuition-free to families that otherwise attend if finances weren't an issue. Tim says, "This has turned out to be a blessing not only to these kids, but also to me, as I discover once again that it really is more blessed to give than to receive. Besides, we all have a blast!"
