Emerging Young Leaders Open House

AKA SEEKS MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS READY FOR LEADERSHIP IN LOUDOUN COUNTY

Tuesday, December 21, 2011--Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority members in Loudoun County will officially launch the Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) program in January 2012.  The leadership development program, led by Ms. Monique Hutcherson, provides activities and quality workshops designed to cultivate academic achievement, promote community activism, and encourage personal growth within the lives of middle school-aged girls.  The program provides exposure to strong African-American female leaders in the community through mentoring relationships between members of the Pearls of Loudoun Interest Group and participating young women in grades 6 – 8.  The program aligns with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s national leadership initiative for young women.

EYL extends the vision of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated by cultivating and encouraging high scholastic achievement through leadership development, educational enrichment, civic engagement, and character building in young women. The 2011-2012 program year includes local community service opportunities, team and character building exercises, a career panel featuring non-traditional careers for women, self-esteem classes, and more.  The year culminates with a “Rites of Passage Tea”, where the young leaders will coordinate and present a special program for their family and other invited guests.
