Leesburg Fourth Of July 2017: Fireworks, Parade, Concert

Not content with one big Fourth of July celebration, Leesburg decided to have two Big Independence Day celebrations. Here's the 2017 info.

LEESBURG, VA — Not content with one big Fourth of July celebration, Leesburg decided to have two Big Independence Day celebrations. The first is the annual downtown parade. The second is the live music concert combined with what's billed with what's billed as "the largest fireworks show in the region."

Ida Lee Park, 60 Ida Lee Drive NW, will be the centerpiece of both events. Parking information is provided below. Organizers stress that every effort will be made to hold the event on its scheduled date, although the fireworks start time may have to be adjusted to avoid approaching rain or severe weather.

WEATHER UPDATE: The weather forecast is a bit dicey. NBC Washington's Chuck Bell says storms will be a bit more likely south and west of the D.C. Metro area; he says rain is most likely between 2 and 7 p.m., but fireworks should be dry. The National Weather Service calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Look for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 93. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. The chance of scattered rain showers before 2 am creeps up to 50 percent. Skies tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.

Independence Day Parade - 10 am

Start the holiday by showing your patriotic spirit at the annual Independence Day Parade, held through Historic Downtown Leesburg beginning at 10am. The parade will start at Ida Lee Park, travel down King Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! This year’s parade will also feature the 9th annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by the Loudoun Now newspaper. This award will go to the best parade entry; winners’ names will be engraved on the Patriot Cup, which will be on display at Town Hall for the remainder of the year.

Back this year is the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps, sponsored by Toth Financial. This traditional corps adds a patriotic sound to the parade and is a favorite among parade viewers. The group will perform at the intersection of King and Market Street as a prelude to the parade. Plan to arrive downtown by 9:45am to hear the fife and drums before the parade kicks off.

Join the Parade! If you are interested in participating in the parade, entry is free! Applications can be downloaded here or contact Ida Lee Park Recreation Center at 703-777-1368 for a hard copy. King Street will close to through-traffic at 9:30am in preparation for the parade. Downtown streets will re-open at approximately 11:30am.

Concert & Fireworks at Ida Lee Park

The popular local Loudoun band, Sub-Radio, will kick off the night's music, then The Robbie Limon Band will wow the audience with a wide range of your favorites from the 70's era. Gates open at 5:45pm and music starts at 6:00pm, so be sure to arrive early and grab a spot for a full night of fun, food and terrific music. A full food court will be onsite with funnel cakes, ice cream, burgers, hot dogs, and so much more.

The biggest bang of the evening begins at 9:30pm when the largest fireworks show in the region will light up the sky. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be missed. Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the festival field parking off King Street. The Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to ensure that as many vehicles as possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting to enter and exit. The Town also reminds our guests to use designated crosswalks. A parking map can be downloaded here.

Leesburg Fire and Rescue Volunteers will be on site to provide medical assistance if needed. Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of a cancellation due to weather, fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30pm. No other activities will be rescheduled.
