Pilot Dies In Glider Plane Crash Near Front Royal: Police

A plane crashed near the Front Royal-Warren County Aiport Sunday afternoon, killing the pilot, according to the police.

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA — A plane crashed in Warren County Sunday afternoon near the Front Royal-Warren County Aiport, killing the pilot, according to the Virginia State Police. No one on the ground was injured from the crash.

The crash occurred at 1:37 p.m. in a wooded area in the 400 block of Stokes Airport Road. A preliminary investigation found that the glider aircraft was attempting to land or take off from the Front Royal airport and collided with several trees.

The pilot, Peter C. Maynard, 65, of Berryville, Va., died at the scene of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the crash, according to the state police.
