Holiday Art Show Opens at ArtSquare

New show features the works of 18 local artists.

 

Holiday Show on the Square, which features the works of 18 leading local artists, opened with a champagne reception at on Friday, Dec. 9.

The show includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, photography and mixed media, many of which are available for purchase.

Executive Director Cindy Bridgman said that ArtSquare is the home of the nonprofit Loudoun Academy of Arts Foundation, which includes a school and artists’ studios in addition to the galleries.

The school offers classes in fine art media for adults and children. Artist Dell Keathley said that that the school has three classrooms, and that many local artists rent studio space at ArtSquare.

“We just so love this place,” said Keathley, who paints oils and watercolors. “It’s been wonderful for us.” She said that she has been associated with ArtSquare since it began.

Sculptor John Raymond has two pieces of “found art” on display at the show. He said that he gets great pleasure scanning the sides of road and going through junkyards, looking for discarded items that can be turned into works of art.

The show will run through January 8, 2012, at ArtSquare, which is located at 12 Cardinal Park Drive, S.E., in Leesburg.
