Lady Raiders Come Up Short in State Championship

The volleyball team faced a familiar foe last Friday night when they took on Cave Spring in the VHSL AA State Semifinals. The Raiders have faced the Knights in four of their six trips to VCU in the last six years. The Knights are the only team to defeat Loudoun County in Richmond. 

The Raiders were 6 to 2 versus the Knights, but unfortunately, their second defeat came last Friday night 3 to 1 (25 to 20, 16 to 25, 22 to 25, 21o 25). Cave Spring defeated Loudoun County 3 to 0 in the 2006 State Final, and the Raiders had won six consecutive matches over Cave Spring before Friday's rematch. 

Since 2001, there have only been three high schools in Virginia to bring home the last 12 VHSL AA State titles: Loudoun Valley (2001, 2002, 2004), Cave Spring (2003 Winter, 2003 Fall, 2005, 2006, 2011), and Loudoun County (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). 

Cave Spring went on to sweep Jamestown on Saturday for their VHSL 5th State Championship. Loudoun County finished their season at 27 to 2.

• 2009: 26 to 3, Dulles District Regular Season Champions, Dulles District Tournament Runner-Up, Region II champions, AA State Champions

• 2010: 28 to 1, Dulles District Regular Season Champions, Dulles District Tournament Champions, Region II champions, AA State Champions

• 2011: 27 to 2, Dulles District Regular Season Champions, Dulles District Tournament Champions, Region II champions, AA State Semifinalist   Combined Record of 162 to 10 including 4 State Championships, 6 Final Four Appearances, 6 Region Titles, 6 Dulles District Championships, 5 Dulles District Tournament Championships.
