LCHS Performs "Almost, Maine"

The final show will be presented this Saturday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The theatre department presented Almost, Maine on Saturday, the story of residents who find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.

Director John Wells said it’s a series of nine short scenes, each of which has to do with romance. Not all of the stories end happily, he said. Some of them are very funny while others are rather sad.

“Just about all the stories take some cliché and sort of turn it into a literal romantic usage,” Wells said. “It’s a really cool little story.”

One of the reasons Wells said he chose Almost, Maine is because it’s one of the first plays written in the 21st century that is acceptable for all of the kinds of rules and restrictions that people sort of live by today.

“Two, the characters are really wonderful,” Wells said, and each of the 19 performers adapted to them very well.  “I don’t think you could sit through the entire performance and not find something that you found heartfelt in either a joyous or sad kind of way. It’s just a really beautiful written piece and the kids just really latched onto it right away and identified with it very quickly. It’s just a really good evening of theater.”
