Leesburg To Award $1M In Coronavirus Grants To Nonprofit Groups
Leesburg is accepting grant applications from nonprofit groups that are working to help town residents during the coronavirus crisis.
LEESBURG, VA ā The town of Leesburg is accepting applications for grants from nonprofit groups that are working to help Leesburg residents who have been financially or medically affected by the coronavirus. Nonprofit groups can apply for the grants, called Leesburg Nonprofit CARES ACT grants, through Wednesday, July 22.
The Leesburg Town Council allocated $1 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funding to support nonprofit groups. The town will accept individual grant requests up to $50,000.
An evaluation committee, consisting of five community members and non-voting town staff, will review applications and make recommendations for funding to the Leesburg Town Council. All grant funds must be used in direct response to the coronavirus crisis.

The evaluation committee will seek to address as many coronavirus-related community needs as possible, the town said. Examples of support include rent or mortgage assistance, utility assistance, food assistance, and medical expenses related to the coronavirus crisis.
Funds must be used to cover costs that are necessary expenditures related to the coronavirus crisis and must be spent by Dec. 30.

Nonprofit groups located outside of Leesburg and Loudoun County are eligible to apply for a grant. But the groups must be able to show that the funds will be used to directly support Leesburg residents.
The Leesburg Town Council is scheduled to review the recommendations of the evaluation committee and approve the final grant awards at their work session and business meetings on Aug. 10-11.
Using CARES Act funds, the town also allocated more than $3 million in grants for businesses facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus crisis.
