Leesburg Health Inspections: Bia Kitchen, Chick-Fil-A, BKD Bagels
The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around the Leesburg area during recent inspections.
LEESBURG, VA — The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County. Officials conducted the most recent round of inspections between June 1 and June 7.
Many COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.
Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

- After speaking with the person in charge about frozen herb pesto that was on the courter thawing it was discovered that the herb pesto was made at inspected facility then was taken to a not inspected facility to be frozen. Then the herb pesto was brought back to inspected facility.

- Observed: There is no employee health policy (1B form) in place- whereas employees are trained in the signs and symptoms of reportable illnesses.
- Observed: Reminder (asterisk) on menu needs to be added for items that are served undercooked (steak, caesar dressing, etc.)
- Observed: Labels on bulk items that are not easily idenntifiable: salt, sugar not observed with labels.
- Observed: Area that dumpster/refuse area is located is not curbed/graded to drain to collect & dispose of liquid waste that results from the refuse and rom cleaning the area and waste receptacles.

- Observed: Raw eggs (shell) stored above ready-to-eat food.

- Total violations: 5
- Observed: Refrigeration unit on upper level storing milk/wine.Temped milk, 1/2 and 1/2 at 47F.
- Observed: 1/2 and 1/2 at self service table does not have proper documentation for being held as time as a public health control (TPHC).
- Observed: Upper level storage shelves hasd chemicals/cleaners above food items.
- Observed: Several refrigeration units need thermometers inside the units to verify temperatures are 41F or below. Small refrigerator behind cash register, two refrigeration units in the basement.

- At vegetable wash station the plug was not able to stop water.

- The sanitizing test strips did not have a color chart to compare the sanitizer test strip with to identify the concentration of sanitizer used at 3 vat sink.
- The ice deflector on the interior of the ice machine has a pink residue on it.
