Leesburg Health Inspections: Delirium Cafe, Bowlero

The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around Leesburg during recent inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County. Officials conducted the most recent round of inspections between May 18 and May 24.

Many COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Finn Thai Restaurant, 126 N Maple Ave Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: May 18
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observation Women's room does not have signage informing employees to wash hands.
      • Observation: Raw shell eggs in walk-in stored above ready-to-eat food (lettuce).
      • Observation: Date marking not observed in refrigeration unit at sushi bar.
      • Observed: Ice scoop handle in ice bin/sushi area is touching ice
  • Delirium Cafe / DC Wings, 101 S. King St Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: May 19
    • Total violations: 6
      • Observed employee cutting ready-to-eat lime slices with their bare hands at the bar.
      • Observed several shellstock tags (mussels) not dated with when the last shellstock from the container was sold or served.
      • Observed low temperature chemical dish machine at bar in use sanitizing at 0 PPM chlorine
      • Observed ice machine guard in need of cleaning. Soil residue observed on the guard.
      • Observed brown gravy (97F), carbonara (100F) hot holding at improper temperatures in steam well.
      • Observed cooked chicken wings (46F), raw ground beef (49), raw fish (48), and raw chicken (46) cold holding at improper temperature temperature in 1 door refrigeration unit.
  • Bowlero-Leesburg, 1602 Village Market Blvd, 100 Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: May 20
    • Total violations: 3
      • Observed no sign at hand sink by dishwashing area.
      • Observed raw ground beef stored over RTE to eat vegetable tray.
      • There was no testing strips for the quat at 3-compartment sink or chlorine test for bar and main dishwasher.

    • Total violations: 1
      • The Person in Charge has not trained staff in food safety as it relates to their duties. The three compartment sink is set up with water and a bleach with fragrance and splash reduction additives. The sanitizer pail contains a quat solution above the maximum 400 ppm.

      • Observed: There is no signage in restroom indicating that employees must wash hands before returning to work.
  • Walmart (Subway), 19360 Compass Creek Parkway Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: May 23
    • Total violations: 2
      • Chicken and steak observed cold holding at improper temperatures. Both were left on counter top and not put away after delivery (as per Person-In-Charge this was 10 am).
      • Personal items are stored with food. Observed hairbrush, cereal, bowls, blender stored with and above food in storage. Observed drinks stored on prep table with box of tomatoes.
  • Cassia Asian Bistro, 20 Town Sq #160 Lovettsville, VA 20180
    • Date inspected: May 24
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observed cooked tofu and a container of sticky rice not dated for disposition. Also observed a container of sticky rice with a date of 4/26.
      • Observed in-use knives stored in between 2 prep units. Sides of prep units are not clean to sight/ touch.
      • Observed hood vent and floors under fryer in need of cleaning. Hood vent observed with grease build-up on baffles. Puddle of grease observed behind fryer.
      • Observed employee personal items (cell phone and charger plug) on prep unit cutting board
