Leesburg Health Inspections: Shoes Cup And Cork, Pen's Oriental
The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several facilities around western Loudoun County during recent inspections.
LEESBURG, VA — Several restaurants around Leesburg and western Loudoun County recorded violations during recent inspections from the health department. Inspectors conducted the most recent restaurant visits between April 12 and April 18.
Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.
Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

- Observed raw shell eggs stored above cheese in the white refrigeration unit. Ensure raw animal products are stored in a manner that prevents potential cross contamination.
- Observed half & half for customer self service cold holding at improper temperatures. Half & half was observed at 56F in a water bath.
- Pen's Oriental Kitchen, 609-Z Main Street East Purcellville, VA 20132

- Observed an open employee beverage (mug) stored above the prep unit. An employee shall eat and drink only in designated areas where the contamination of exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; unwrapped single-service and single-use articles; or other items needing protection cannot result.
- Observed hand washing sink by the dish machine blocked with food containers. Hand washing sink was not accessible. Ensure hand washing sinks are accessible at all times.
- Observed containers of cooked chicken prepared on Wednesday not dated for disposition in the walk in refrigerator. Also observed containers of cooked pork not dated for disposition in the walk in refrigerator.
- Observed several non-food contact surfaces of equipment in the kitchen in need of cleaning. Areas include exterior of dish machine, exterior of refrigeration units, and shelving.

- Observed this facility to not have a certified food protection manager. Current certificates provided by the person in charge (PIC) expired in February 2023.
- Observed 2 employee drink containers with lids on the cutting boards of refrigeration prep tables. Observed an employee open drink container on and above clean dishware. Observed an employee eating a sandwich and then place the sandwich on a plate above clean dishware. An employee shall eat and drink only in designated areas where the contamination of exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; unwrapped single-service and single-use articles; or other items needing protection cannot result. A food employee may drink from a closed beverage container if the container is handled to prevent contamination of the employee's hands, the container; and exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles.
- Observed an employee handle ready-to-eat bread with their bare hands. Food employees shall not contact exposed, ready-to-eat food with their bare hands and shall use suitable utensils such as deli tissue, spatulas, tongs, single-use gloves, or dispensing equipment.
