Leesburg Health Inspections: Skye's Bistro, Firebirds

The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around Leesburg during recent inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several Leesburg area restaurants during inspections from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1.

Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

Here are the most recent restaurant inspections in the Leesburg area, according to the Loudoun County Health Department.

  • Los Tios Grill Restaurant, 201- A Harrison St Se Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Oct. 26
    • Total violations: 3
      • Observed kitchen hand washing sink to not have hot water at time of inspection. Hot water was observed turned off at plumbing connection.
      • Observed several food items in the walk in cooler stored uncovered, not protected from contamination. This is a repeat violation.
      • Observed several pieces of cooking equipment in need of cleaning. Nonfood contact surfaces have a build-up of debris.
  • Skye's Bistro, 19375 Magnolia Grove Sq Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Oct. 28
    • Total violations: 3
      • Paper towels were not available at hand sink located in the dish washing area.
      • An open package of hot dogs was observed stored in the walk-in cooler without and date marking indicating when the package was opened and when it needs to be used or discarded.
      • When asked the manager could not provide a high recording thermometer or heat strips to check the high temp dish machine food utensils to verify the food utensils were getting sanitized with heat.
  • Woodgrove High School, 36811 Allder School Rd Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Oct. 28
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed several single service utensils (knives, forks, spoons) for students to grab with the food contact surface facing up, not protected from contamination.
  • Smiling Tummy Thai, 39295 Crooked Bridge Ln Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Oct. 30
    • Total violations: 2
      • Food employee observed prepping food without first washing their hands due to there not being any water in the water tank of the mobile food unit. Food employee is unable to properly wash their hands on the mobile food unit.
      • Food trailer (MFU) operating at public event without water. water tank is empty. Food employees are unable to wash their hands or wash, rinse and sanitize utensils.
  • La Villa Roma, 305 East Market Street #G Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Oct. 31
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed the facility to not have a certified food protection manager. Current certification expired 10/25/2022.
  • Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, 1607 Village Market Blvd #100 Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Oct. 31
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observed whole roast 109F reheating in hot holding/warming at an improper reheating for a whole roast.
      • Observed butane stored next to dessert garnishes.
      • Observed no way to test the temperature of the high temperature dishwasher.
      • Observed hand sink in kitchen leaking.
