LEESBURG, VA — The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several restaurants around Leesburg during recent inspections. The most recently published inspections occurred between July 13 and July 20.

Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

    • Date inspected: July 13
    • Total violations: 3
      • Soap was not provided at the hand washing sink in near the serving counter in the front of the establishment.
      • Hand sink in the back of the kitchen did not have paper towels to dry hands at time of inspection.
      • Observed salsa verde located in walk-in cooler with a discard date of 7/8/22.

    • Total violations: 5
      • Observed: Several hot held items (potatoes, rice, cauliflower) were not hot holding at 135F or higher temperature.
      • Observed: The main menu has appropriate consumer advisory (reminder/disclosure). The menu exclusively for oysters has the disclosure, but not the reminder (asterisk) on each oyster item.
      • Observed: Several spray bottles of sanitizer were not labeled with the common name of the chemical within.
      • Hot holding unit for mashed potatoes, rice, cauliflower is not functioning properly (not holding temperature at 135F or above).
      • Observed: Lowest level floor is wet. There is a water leakage. Flying insects observed near the areas of pooling water.

      • Hand sink near entry to the kitchen was obstructed during initial portion of inspection.

      • Onions observed stored on the ground in dry storage area.
      • Ice scoop observed resting in ice during time of inspection.

    • Total violations: 8
      • Several repeat violations were observed to include dish machine not sanitizing food utensils, hot holding, the covering of foods while stored, and pests.
      • A pan of raw chicken was observed stored on shelf over diced tomatoes, mac & cheese, and a large uncovered container of salsa while stored in walk-in cooler. Uncovered mac & cheese and cooked beef was observed stored in reach in freezer.
      • When checked the dish machine was not dispensing chlorine sanitizer. The dish machine was not sanitizing the food utensils.
      • The beef on the warming unit left of the cooking line was observed with an internal temperature of 114F while hot holding. This temperature is to low.
      • A baby roach was observed on the floor by back door of kitchen.
      • In-use utensils improperly stored between use. Food utensils were observed stored in a pan of stagnate water next to stove.
      • Single service plastic sour cream containers were observed re-used to store various foods make in house in the coolers.
      • An accumulation of old food debris and grease was observed on the flood along the floor wall juncture under cook line, under shelving, and under 3 vat sink.
