Leesburg Health Inspections: West End Wine Bar, Best Thai Kitchen

The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several facilities around the Leesburg area during recent inspections.

LEESBURG, VA — Several facilities around the Leesburg area recorded violations during restaurant inspections between Aug. 16 and Aug. 23.

Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

    • Total violations: 1
      • Waste water tank is not 15% greater than clean water tank.
  • Dunkin Donuts, 308 Kelly's Ford Plaza #100 Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Aug. 16
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed several in-use utensils stored in standing, cloudy room temperature water.
  • Purcellville Eats, 609 U East Main St Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed no working temperature measuring device to measure temperature of the high temperature dish machine. Facility has a temperature plate but the plate is unable to turn on.
  • Deli South, 38-D Catoctin Circle Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed several food items prepared over 7 days ago in need of disposition. Items included pre-portioned hashbrowns (date of 8/5), cooked mushrooms (date of 7/30), roasted turkey (date of 8/3).
      • Observed several pre-packaged foods in a grab & go manner with no label next to front register.

    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 1
      • In-use utensils (Spatulas, etc) improperly stored between use. Utensils stored between use in a bucket not maintained at 135F or higher.
  • River Creek Country Club Snack Bar, 43800 Olympic Blvd Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 3
      • Employee was observed entering kitchen from outside and proceeded to prep food before he was stopped to wash hands.
      • Paper towels were not available to dry hands at start of inspection. Staff was sent to get paper towels.
      • Employee working in kitchen was not able to find a thermometer to check the internal temperature of foods.
  • Riverside High School Outdoor Concession, 19019 Upper Belmont Place Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 2
      • Dish soap and sanitizer was not available during inspection. Person in Charge, (PIC), was going to pick some up prior to the football game.
      • Sanitizer test strips could not be found by the PIC.
  • West End Wine Bar & Pub, 36855 West Main St Purcellville, VA 20132
    • Date inspected: Aug. 17
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observed a container of shellstock (mussels) in prep unit without the tag or label with the product. Kitchen staff were unable to locate tag or label for that product. Also observed inconsistency with dating of shellstock tags with when the last shellstock from the container was sold or served.
      • Observed bar dish machine at 0 PPM Chlorine.
      • Observed grits (78F), marinara (76F), and cheese sauce (75F) not properly reheated for hot holding. Per PIC, Items were placed in a hot water bath around 2:00 PM. Items were temperature checked around 4:00 PM.
      • Observed cooked potato (53F), Pickled cabbage (48F), pork belly (62F) cold holding at improper temperatures in prep unit.
  • Best Thai Kitchen, 4 East Federal St Middleburg, VA 20117
    • Date inspected: Aug. 19
    • Total violations: 4
      • Observed: A food employee was observed cleaning their hands in a food preparation sink.
      • Observed: Both employee handsinks had items in handsink (purse, tea things)
      • Observed: Personal items (vitamins) stored above prep table.
      • Observed: Animal proteins thawing in water in bowl in sink.
  • Bleu Bistro, 16413 James Monroe Hwy Leesburg, VA 20176
    • Date inspected: Aug. 21
    • Total violations: 1
      • Employee did not have signed employee health policy form on unit during inspection.
  • Popeye's, 502 Compass Point Plaza SE Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Aug. 23
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed: Chicken nuggets at 122F in hot holding slide through window.
  • Comfort Suites Breakfast Bar, 80 Prosperity Ave Leesburg, VA 20175
