LEESBURG, VA — A new police K-9 is coming to Leesburg. The Leesburg Police Department is hosting a community vote to choose his name.

In the online survey, Leesburg residents can choose between three names for the new police dog: Lucky, Rocky, or Riley.

Opening began on Friday, which marked National Dog Day. The police department said voting will remain open until Thursday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m.

The new K-9 is a 2-year-old male Belgian Malinois, the police department said. Alongside a human partner, the dog will complete a course to receive training in patrol and explosive ordinance detection.

When they complete their training, the dog and his handler will be assigned to the Leesburg Police Department's field operations division.
