Leesburg Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award For 35th Consecutive Year

Leesburg, VA (December 17, 2020) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Town of Leesburg its prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Town’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget. Leesburg has received this award every year since 1986. It is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes organizations that meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Recipients must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget development and presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an organization’s budget serves the multiple roles of policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. Budget documents must be rated as “proficient” or “outstanding” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

As part of this award, the Town of Leesburg was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Preparation. According to Clark Case, Director of Finance and Administrative Services, “This award is the result of the collective efforts of the entire Town management team and informs the public in great detail how their tax dollars are being used”.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving over 18,000 government finance professionals in North America. The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
