Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Goosecup, The Branch, Taco Bell
A dozen restaurants around western Loudoun County were cited with violations during recent inspection by the health department.
LEESBURG, VA — During recent inspections by the Loudoun County Health Department, 12 locations around Leesburg, Purcellville, and Lovettsville were cited with violations. The cited locations were inspected between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21.
As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.
Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

- When tested, no sanitizer or a low concentration of chemical sanitizer was found at the kitchen dishwasher, 0ppm chlorine.
- The prepared ready-to-eat (RTE) pasta salad and sliced deli meat (roast beef) in the refrigeration unit is not properly dated for disposition.
- Hot water is not available at the handsinks (83F), 3 basin sink (77F) and low temp dishwasher (80F).

- Observed no temperature measuring device to test the high temperature dish machine.
- Observed wiping clothes stored in a sanitizer bucket with a concentration greater than 200 PPM chlorine.
- Observed the facility reduce oxygen packaging (ROP) bacon and Canadian bacon without a variance or HACCP plan approved by the regulatory authority. Food items prepared in packaging 12/2/21.
- Observed coleslaw, cooked duck wings, pickled carrots, and pickled cabbage in the walk in cooler not properly dated for disposition. Food items were prepared over 24 hours ago.
- Observed shellstock tags (Mussels) not dated with when the last shellstock from the container was sold or served.

- Observed shredded cheddar and shredded pepper jak cheese with a date of 11/27.
- Observed in sanitizer (quaternary) compart of 3 compartment sink at greater than 500 ppm the was a metal lid being sanitizer.
- Observed frozen nuggets on the floor by hand sink in kitchen area.

- Observed hand washing sink in the kitchen to have a broken nozzle for cold water. Cold water is not able to be dispensed from hand sink.
- Observed the self closing bathroom door in women's restroom to be broken. Door is no longer self closing.

- Observed: Employee cutting lemons with bare hands. Lemons to be squeezed for juice: not heated.

- Observed: Chicken observed thawing in bucket of 'still' water.
- Observed: There is no hood system to accommodate the grease-laden vapors from hamburgers and french fries being cooked.

- In kitchen, near dry storage, handsink was missing hand towels.
- Observation: Employee hand sink in bar area has ice cubes in it.
- Observed: There are no chlorine test strips to test sanitizer level of the low temperature dish machine

- This food establishment could not explain how to clean up after a vomit or diarheal event and does not have procedures for cleaning up vomiting or diarrheal events that happen in the facility.
- Observed lids being sanitized in the 3 compartment sink when tested 100 ppm.
- Observed floor drain not draining because the 3 compartment drain over flowed and the person in charge swept the water with a broom to the 3 compartment drain.

- Observed cooked sausage, cracked shell eggs, and salmon lox on ice bath in the kitchen cold holding above 41F.
- Observed front door and back door in Kings Court with significant daylight on the bottom of the doors. Doors are not tight fitting.
- Observed wiping cloth stored in a sanitizer bucket at a concentration greater than 200PPM chlorine.
- Observed ceiling tile in the kitchen damaged. Per PIC, there had been a leak.

- Observed no verifiable manner that employees are aware, to report to the person in charge, information about their health and activities as it relates to diseases that are transmissible through food.
- Observed hand washing sink in the ware washing/ storage room blocked by sodas. Hand washing sink is being used to store items.
- Observed no hand drying provision at hand washing sink in pizza prep room.
- Upon EHS arrival, pizza slices for which time rather than temperature is being used as a control is not properly labeled.
- Observed 3 containers of inspect spray in ware washing room. Per Person In Charge (PIC), facility uses it to spray insects indoors.
- Observed several packages of raw chicken thawing in standing water at 49F in the 3 compartment sink.
- Observed tongs in standing water at 68F by the grill.
