Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Subway, Magnolias At The Mill

LEESBURG, VA — Four restaurants in the western portion of Loudoun County were cited with violations during recent inspections from the Loudoun Health Department. The cited locations were inspected between Dec. 22 and Dec. 28.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

    • Food employees and conditional employees are informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report in accordance with law, to the person in charge, information about their health and activities as they relate to diseases that are transmissible through food, as specified under 12VAC-421-80
    • Hand soap dispenser in the kitchen did not have any during the time of inspection.
    • Observed a hand sink in the rear of the kitchen obstructed with gloves.
    • Observed pollo guisado in walk-in cooler with an expiration date of 12/14/21.
    • Observed spray bottles with cleaning content in them that did not have a label identifying the contents.
    • Observed chicken breast thawing in container at room temperature on shelf above oven.

    • Test strips at dish machine were not producing adequate readings to determine chemical concentration of dish sanitizer.

    • Person in charge could not describe how to clean up a vomit/ diarrhea event.

    • Observed several shellstock tags not properly dated with when the last shellstock from the container was sold or served.
