Leesburg Suspends Car Inspection Enforcement During Coronavirus
The Town of Leesburg is suspending enforcement of vehicle safety inspections in response to the coronavirus.
LEESBURG, VA — The Town of Leesburg is suspending enforcement of vehicle registration and safety inspections in response to the new coronavirus, or COVID-19. Owners of vehicles with registration and safety inspection stickers that expire in March and April will be given a 60-day extension, according to the Leesburg Police Department.
Enforcement of vehicles with March expiration dates on their registration and inspection stickers will resume June 1 and enforcement of vehicles with April expiration dates will resume July 1, the police department said.
Earlier this month, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles closed all 75 of its customer service centers in response to the spread of coronavirus. At the direction of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, the DMV extended the validity of driver’s licenses, identification cards and vehicle registrations for 60 days. The directive included people aged 75 and older who are typically required to make an in-person visit.

All DMV customer service centers are closed until April 2. However, the centers will likely remain closed for at least another two months given that Northam on Monday issued a "stay-at-home" order for Virginians through June 10. Northam's stay-at-home order came the same day that Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued a similar order.
