Creative Dance Center Performing Troupe wowed the crowd at Downtown Disney

On Saturday, March 28th, 2015, Creative Dance Center Performing Troupe wowed the crowd Downtown Disney, Orlando, Florida! CDC*PT performed in front of nearly a thousand people at the Waterside Stage in the Downtown Disney Area. CDC*PT presented tap, jazz, and lyrical dance selections with an 80’s theme to the delight of evening PT supporters and Disney guests.

CDC*PT dancer, Abi S., age 13, said, “It was really exciting to dance at Disney in front of so many people. The crowd was really awesome. I thought everyone did an awesome job.” Abi is in her 7th year at CDC, 5th year of CDC’s Nutcracker, and 2nd year on CDC Performing Troupe.

Natasha A., age 10, in her first year performing with CDC*PT and her second year at CDC, said, “it was great to perform my first year at a big place like Disney. Ever since I was a little girl and my parents took me to the Magic Kingdom, I have wanted to perform at a big place like Disney World.”

CDC*PT Director, Geralyn Ward, concurred with both, saying, “I am so proud of CDC*PT dancers. They performed beautifully in front of one of our largest crowds to date.”

In the days following their performance, members of CDC Performing Troupe attended Disney Dancin’ Workshop in the Costuming and Auditions Building at Disney World. CDC*PT students had a rare opportunity to study with Disney professionals and learn actual or adapted choreography from a live Disney stage shows. Disney Dancin’ focuses on stage presence, facial expressions, and the “polish” a performer must have on and off the stage to become a success. The students experience one on one training in a fun yet challenging environment.

Brianna H., age 12, 6 year veteran of Nutcracker, in her 5th year as a CDC student, and 2nd year on CDC Performing Troupe, said, “I thought the class was great! The instructor treated our class like an audition for a role in the Festival of the Lion King show. We had a couple minutes to stretch, then we learned some of the choreographed dance.” Brianna continued that it was “ just like in a real audition. It was a great surprise at the end when Goofy came out and took pictures with us. I can’t wait until I am older, so I can audition for a role at Disney World.”

Founded in 2008 at the Ashburn Creative Dance Center, CDC’s Performing Troupe (CDC*PT) was designed as a dance training and performance program for dancers who enjoy performing locally at a variety of community events. It continues to thrive in its 7th year.
