Local Scouts Blaze New Trails for Residents of Lansdowne Woods

Lansdowne, VA – Among the favorite perks of Lansdowne Woods residents are the 3.5 miles of nature walks that meander from the landscaped grounds through the surrounding woods along the banks of the Potomac River. On Saturday, October 16, a half-mile segment of that trail benefitted from the attentions of more than two dozen local boy scouts, led by the grandson of residents of the active adult communit

As his Eagle Scout project, Fairfax High School junior Drew Robinson rallied more than a dozen of his fellow scouts from Troop 1257 to put in a full day that started at 8 am on a section of trail that parallels the river behind two of the community’s seven buildings. The scouts installed new landscape timbers to border the trail and spread more than 11 tons of wood chips, with materials contributed by Lansdowne Woods.

“We residents love the fact that extraordinarily beautiful nature walks lie right outside our doors,” said Bert Schlabach, president of the Lansdowne Woods board of directors. “Making the paths as beautiful and safe as these scouts have enhances a part of life that we really value, and we’re very appreciative of Drew and his friends,” he added. For his part, Drew is thrilled that his efforts will directly benefit his own grandparents, Ann and Rex Robinson, as well as their friends in the community that they quickly fell in love with after moving there in 2014.
