Loudoun Accepting Equipment Donations To Protect From Coronavirus

Loudoun County plans to distribute the supplies to Loudoun-based health care providers and facilities susceptible to coronavirus.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA —Loudoun County is accepting donations of personal protective equipment to protect the public and workers from the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, and will distribute the supplies to Loudoun-based health care providers and facilities in need, the county said Friday. However, the county said it will not be accepting homemade equipment, such as homemade masks.

Any donated supplies can be opened but must be unused. Individuals and organizations with personal protective equipment (PPE) to donate should submit an online form with details about the available equipment to loudoun.gov/ppe. A county representative will contact the individual or groups to coordinate the donation.

Cases of the new coronavirus increased by more than 100 from Thursday to Friday, according to the latest count from the Virginia Department of Health. Cases are up to 604 statewide, with 83 of the patients hospitalized. The state reported 14 deaths.

Loudoun County reported the death of a staff member with Loudoun County Public Schools Thursday. The death was Northern Virginia's second related to COVID-19; the first death was reported in Fairfax County last weekend. The Loudoun County Department of Health has reported 43 positive cases of the coronavirus.

For donations to the county, personal protective equipment may include surgical masks, N95 respirators, disposable gowns, face shields, coveralls, gloves and hand sanitizer.

The county is also taking requests from Loudoun-based health care providers and facilities in need of personal protective equipment. Requests can be made through a form online at loudoun.gov/ppe.

The county has identified the following entities that are equally in need and will receive the donations collected by the county:

  • Critical county and town government health care providers and emergency responders.
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers and free clinics that accept referrals of ill patients that need evaluation and Coronavirus specimen collection.
  • Assisted living and other senior facilities for whom PPE is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Mass screening clinics.
  • Outpatient providers who currently provide specimen collection and testing.
  • Home health providers who are recommended to use PPE.
