The Loudoun Times reported in February 2025 that a judge rejected an initial plea deal that would have seen Santos-Velazquez serve 16 years. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Amelia K. Flynn had argued that the plea deal would spare the victim and the potential child witness the ordeal of a trial.

Santos-Velazquez had originally also been charged with rape of a child under 13 and sodomy of a victim under 13, but those charges were dropped.
