Loudoun County Raiders Route Woodgrove 12-9

Raiders' offense sparks in the third quarter, securing win

The Loudoun County varsity boy’s lacrosse team defeated the Woodgrove Wolverines on Monday night by a final score of 12-9.

Woodgrove jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game’s first goal with only over a minute into the match up.  They added another one within two minutes putting Loudoun County down 2-0, but the Raiders responded with two goals of their own tying the game.

Woodgrove quickly broke the tie, taking a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.

The Raiders commanded the third quarter, holding Woodgrove to only one goal, while adding on an impressive five more of their own.

Loudoun County’s Stone contributed two of the team’s three goals in the fourth.

The Raiders’ defense gave up four goals to Woodgrove in the final quarter, but was able to hang on to their lead.

Loudoun’s top scorer of the night, senior Peyton Stone, said that the Raider’s had “good ball movement” and they were “moving a lot more.”  In tonight’s game, he saw “the younger players stepping up” and everyone “working as a team.”  Stone hopes the team can “keep up movement” as they look forward to their next matchup.

Raiders’ head coach, Pat Jewell, was pleased to see his team “playing to potential” and “playing our system.”  He thought his squad did a good job of “playing offense to the ball” and he takes it as a good sign moving forward.

The Raiders look to repeat Thursday, as they travel to face George Mason High.  Jewell wants to keep the “momentum going offensively” as he and his team work to “get better every day.”
