Manassas Election 2021: Candidates, How To Vote, Find A Polling Place

MANASSAS, VA — Manassas voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2, to cast ballots for statewide and local offices. Residents can cast their vote for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and delegate.

The Manassas area is represented by the 13th district, 50th district, and 51st district in the Virginia House of Delegates. Each of those seats are up for grabs in the 2021 election.

On Election Day, polls in Prince William County and the rest of Virginia open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. will be permitted to cast their ballot. Manassas residents can find their polling place through the Virginia Department of Election's polling place locator tool.

To vote in person, an acceptable form of ID is required, but it is no longer required to be a photo ID. Examples of accepted ID include a Virginia driver's license, DMV-issued ID, U.S. passport, current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck and more.

Those who are voting by mail must return the mail-in ballot by 5 p.m. on Nov. 2, Election Day, in person or have it postmarked by Nov. 2 and received by noon on Nov. 5.

As an alternative to mail, ballots can be dropped off at a drop box at any early voting site during voting hours or at any polling place during voting hours on Nov. 2. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail was Oct. 22.

What's on the Ballot?

In the 13th district, Incumbent Del. Danica Roem is being challenged by Republican nominee Christopher Stone. Del. Roem's platform include easing congestion on Route 28, encouraging equity in schools, and preventing gun violence through programs like universal background checks. Stone's campaign supports fully funded law enforcement agencies and decreasing regulations on businesses.

Del. Lee Carter currently represents the 50th district in the Virginia House of Delegates, however he did not win the Democratic nomination for the seat in June. Instead, Michelle Maldonado earned the Democratic nomination and will face off against Steve Pleickhardt. Maldonad has cited a desire to improve the VRE system and increase access to affordable healthcare. Pleickhardt, who is a dentist in the area, has a platform that focuses on decreased taxes and expressed concerns about the safety and security of elections.

The 51st district is centered around Lake Ridge and stretches west towards Bristow and Manassas. The seat is currently held by Del. Ayala, who is not running for reelection as she runs for lieutenant governor. Instead, Democrat Briana Sewell will square off against Republican Tim Cox. Sewell intends to increase access to affordable healthcare, restore career and technical education programs in public schools, and expanded paid medical and family leave. Cox supports a free-market economy and a family-centered approach to education that supports school choice.

Manassas voters will also be able to cast their ballots for governor, attorney general, and lieutenant governor.
