Mascot and School Colors Chosen for Frederick Douglass
The decision was made following visits to Tolbert, Catoctin and Cool Spring Elementary schools. Frederick Douglass Elementary will officially open this August.

Stars will be the mascot for the new Frederick Douglass Elementary, which will open in August 2012. The school colors will be navy blue and yellow.
Frederick Douglass Principal Tim Martino and bookkeeper Julianne Van Norden recently visited students from Tolbert, Catoctin, and Cool Spring elementary schools to ask them about their preferences in mascots and colors.
The school’s namesake, Frederick Douglass, wrote an anti-slavery newspaper called the North Star, which is where the stars mascot came from. The school’s logo has three stars, representing the three feeder schools coming together to form the Frederick Douglass school community.
