From its opening in the late 1800s until it closed in the 1940s, the store was once the heart of the Waxpool community in Ashburn. It also housed the local post office and voting precinct.

Slated for demolition in the late 1990s, numerous items from the store's interior were saved and donated to the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum along with thousands of records from the Munday and Tillet families who ran the store.
