Police Seek Assault Suspect

White man in his 30s sought in morning assault near Lawson Rd. SE

Update, Feb. 8, 12:30 p.m.: Leesburg Police are still seeking a suspect in a sexual assault that occured on the morning of Feb. 3 in the area of Lawson Rd.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s with dark hair and light eys and a blue tattoo on his right hand that resembles a sytlized ampersand (&).

Anyone who has information about this assault is asked to call Leesburg Police Detective Zucco at (703) 771‐4500 or to remain anonymous, the Leesburg Crime Line at 703‐443‐TIPS.

Update, Feb. 3, 5:38 p.m.: The Leesburg Police have released information on the nature of the assault reported earlier today.

A 40-year-old woman was walking to work southwest of the Washington and Old Dominion Bike Trail and Lawson Road when she noticed that a man was following her, according to police.

The man then allegedly shoved the victim, and drew a knife on her, according to police.

The woman ran from the knife-wielding attacker, fleeing southwest from a wooded area north of Beauregard Drive, according to police.

The white man is believed to be  5’7” - 5’10”, thin and was last seen wearing tan cargo pants, brown jacket, a tan hat and brown shoes.

Original story: The Leesburg Police Department is looking for a male suspect in an assault that occurred near Lawson Rd. SE and the Bike Trail this morning.

The police suspect a white man in his 30s, who was last seen wearing tan pants, a tan, knit cap and brown shoes. He is clean-shaven, and possibly has a tattoo on his right hand.

Master Police Officer Christopher Tidmore said no further information could be released as of this posting, because it would compromise the investgation in progress. Leesburg Patch will post further information as it becomes available.
