Project Plant It! Brings Trees into the Classroom

Children at Balls Bluff Elementary School demonstrated their knowledge of trees as part of an instruction program sponsored by Dominion Power in partnership with Loudoun County Public Schools.

Students at Balls Bluff Elementary School participated in a program intended to teach them the important role of trees in protecting the environment on Thursday.

Dominion Power’s Project Plant It!, new in Loudoun County, introduces curriculum on the value of trees into schools throughout the region.

“We really love this project because it gives Dominion a chance to show our commitment to the environment and to the community,” said Le-Ha Anderson, spokesperson for Dominion Power.

As part of this project, the company has donated 100,000 saplings to area schools, which the children plant as a part of the curriculum, Anderson said.

On Thursday, Balls Bluff Students played a quiz game, hosted by Radio Disney that tested their knowledge of trees. Divided into two teams in the school’s cafeteria, the Blue Spruces and Red Woods vied for sapling supremacy.

Both teams demonstrated an impressive knowledge of trees, and in the end came out even.
