"My grandmother, she was the 'pupatella' of her family," Algarme said in a video on the chain's website. "She was just a big inspiration for me."
Algarme was born and raised in Naples, Italy and was inspired to start his own restaurant after being disappointed by American pizza.
"When I first came to the U.S., I tried an American pizza and I was like, 'Wow. This is just not it,'" Algarme said. "To me growing up, it was just a really simple product that had the simplest ingredients."
More information about Pupatella is available on the restaurant's website.
