PURCELLVILLE, VA — Free cupcakes will be available to residents who come to the Purcellville Police Department's event at Sweet Rose Bakeshop on Monday, April 12. Cupcake with a Cop is an event designed to foster conversations and relationships between police officers and community members in a neutral environment.

The outdoor event will be held outside of the Sweet Rose Bakeshop at 201 N. 23rd Street in Purcellville from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. This is the first Cupcake with a Cop event hosted by the Purcellville Police Department, according to a news release from the police department. The free cupcakes are all donated by the Sweet Rose Bakeshop.

Residents are encouraged to sit down and enjoy their sweet treat and a conversation with the town's police officers. The event will also offer a drive-thru option for residents in a hurry. Residents can offer a brief hello and take their cupcake on the road. Participants will need to wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols, the police department said.

Purcellville Police Chief Cynthia McAllister said the pandemic has impacted the department's community outreach events. "We are looking forward to meeting members of our community in our first socially distanced gathering this year," McAllister said in a news release. "We have missed the opportunity to build friendships, and are excited to see everyone, even if for a quick hello."

The Cupcake with a Cop event was inspired by the Coffee with a Cop event that the police department used to hold on a bi-monthly basis. These events, which took place throughout the town, were put on hold due to the pandemic.
