Potomac River Ferry Breaks Loose of Cabling
The ferry across the Potomac River between Poolesville and Leesburg had 12 cars onboard at the time, officials say.
Passengers on the White’s Ferry boat on the Potomac River received more of a ride than they bargained for when the boat broke loose of its cabling, authorities say.
The ferry between Poolesville, MD, and Leesburg, VA, broke free about 2:30 p.m. Friday with 12 cars onboard, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.
Boats from Montgomery County and Loudon County, VA, assisted the ferry. The car ferry was re-secured to the shoreline and about 3:30 p.m. all civilians were off the boat and walking back to the terminal’s parking lot, Piringer said.
