Shoe Drive At Loudoun Sheriff's Office Raises Money For Charity

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A shoe donation drive hosted by the Loudoun Sheriff's Office will raise money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving Loudoun. The drive, which is a partnership between the sheriff's office and GotSneakers, will end on March 31.

Residents can pair up their old sneakers and donate them to any of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office location. Every pair of donated sneakers, regardless of their condition, will raise money for the Loudoun chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

"This month we continue our partnership with GotSneakers and MADD in their annual shoe drive to support this local organization that is helping us make a difference in combating impaired driving," Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is accepting donations of pairs of sneakers Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sheriff's office requested that residents tie the donated shoes together before dropping them off.

Donations are accepted at any of the Loudoun County stations.

"The shoe drive for Mothers Against Drunk Driving in Loudoun is one of many public partnerships we have developed over the past several years," Sheriff Chapman added. "It is a great feeling to see our community’s willingness to give and support these efforts."

MADD Loudoun was founded in 1990, and will use the financial support from the shoe drive to continue their fight against impaired driving, the Sheriff's Office said. MADD Loudoun is a volunteer-run organization that hosts workshops, participate in sobriety checkpoints, and attend relevant court trials.

GotSneakers will recycle the donated shoes, depending on their condition. Well-worn shoes are recycled to be used in playgrounds, tracks, and turf fields. Shoes in better conditions are distributed to partners in impoverished nations, according to their website.
